Panthers Fall to Wildcats 81-63 on Thursday Evening

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's basketball team fell to Northern Michigan 81-63 Thursday evening at the DU Student Center.

It was a tightly contested game through the majority of the first half. With 6:56 remaining, Jeff Carrier converted a three-point play the old-fashioned way to trim the Panthers (4-7, 0-2 GLIAC) deficit to one (21-20).

The Wildcats (10-5, 3-0) put together a 8-0 run at the end of the half, taking a 38-29 advantage into the break.

Myles Belyeu scored six straight Davenport points to keep the Panthers in the game to start the second half as NMU led by 10 47-37 with 15:29 remaining. DU went on a 5-0 run late, spurred by a pair of free throws from Carrier, but it was too late for the Panthers as they trailed by 16 with 1:08 remaining.

Belyeu led the way for the Panthers, scoring 13 points and grabbing two rebounds. Jovan Tucker did a little bit of everything for Davenport, finishing with seven points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Carrier and Marcedus Leech Jr. each chipped in with nine points apiece.
