GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's ACHA Division I hockey team had a lethal power play on Sunday as they defeated Aquinas College 6-3 at Patterson Ice Center. The Panthers (6-4) completed the two-game sweep of the Saints for the week and evened the all-time series at 7-7. The power play hovering around 20 percent for the season went 4-of-8 as the Saints were severely penalized for their lack of composure.

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period. Kieran Thiessen got the scoring started at 4:42 of the first period on a shot from the left point with assists from Trent Benedict and Dylan Jouppi. Then the power play got going for Davenport as Branwen Pollett scored on the team's first opportunity at 10:22 for his second goal of the season from Kristers Klavins and Jake Alton.

Peter Stojcevski made it 3-0 at 2:29 of the second period on the man advantage from Klavins and Pollett. Nick Dashner scored the first Aquinas goal on the power play at 4:04 of the second period after a Robert McLaughlin cross-checking minor at 3:30. Benedict concluded the second period scoring at 17:59 with his seventh goal of the season from Taber Gutschick and Klavins, for his third assist of the game.

The teams traded goals in the third period as Aquinas scored at 5:22 by way of Gavin Rozema's first goal of the season. Liam Bland answered at 11:42 on the power play with his fourth goal of the season from Austin Melone. Rozema scored again at 15:49 for the Saints, but it was Ryder McMillen scoring on a 5-on-3 power play at 18:51 from Pollett and Gutschick to finish the scoring and the final score of 6-3.

Davenport recorded an incredible 60 shots on goal compared to 33 for the Saints. Kyler Lowden played all 60 minutes in net for the Panthers and made 30 saves. Max Johnston played 55 minutes for Aquinas in net and stopped 48 shots. Randon Striplin played five minutes in the second period and stopped all six shots he faced.

The Panthers will now prepare for a major test this week as they face No. 7 Purdue Northwest in a pair of GL6 games. The team will travel to Indiana on Thursday (8:00 PM) before coming back home on Saturday (3:35 PM).
