Panthers Swept by #2 Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 2 Ferris State on Thursday evening (Oct. 24) at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Panthers (8-13, 4-6 GLIAC) dropped the opening set 25-12 after falling behind 10-2 in the beginning stages. After falling behind by double-digits (19-8) in the second set, a kill from Karley Pretzer helped set in motion a 7-3 DU rally, trimming the deficit to seven (22-15). Moments later, Pretzer sparked a 3-1 run for the Panthers with a kill off an assist from Ashley Arceo, putting the score at 24-18 in favor of FSU. However, the Bulldogs (21-0, 10-0) scored on the ensuing play, taking down the Panther 25-18 and going ahead 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, Davenport stayed within striking distance of Ferris State, until the Bulldogs put together a 7-0 rally midway through the set, going ahead 22-11. DU answered shortly after with a 5-0 run of its own, capped by a service ace from Hayley Carr, but it wasn't enough as FSU came out on top 25-17, securing the sweep.

Leading the way for the Panthers was Pretzer with eight kills and hitting .421 in the loss. Kaitlyn Marsh added seven kills while swinging at an efficient .621 clip on 11 attempts. Defensively, Carr finished the match with a team-high nine digs.
