Panthers Clinch GLIAC Tournament Berth on Friday Evening

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team opened the final weekend of regular season action with a sweep over Parkside on Friday evening at the DeSimone Gymnasium.  Following the victory, the Panthers (10-17, 6-10 GLIAC) clinched a berth in the GLIAC Postseason Tournament, which begins next Wednesday (Nov. 20).

A 4-0 rally, capped by an Abby Alan kill, helped Davenport get out to a 10-7 lead in the opening set. Trailing by one (15-14) later in the set, the Panthers put together a 6-0 rally, which featured two Alan kills and propelled DU to a 20-15 advantage. Mehl Hansen set up Kaitlin Jordan who sealed the set with a kill, giving Davenport the 25-20 win, going ahead 1-0 in the match.

Emma Turnquist sparked a 5-1 run for the Panthers with a kill in the opening stages of the second set, putting them in front of the Rangers (11-15, 7-8 GLIAC) by three (7-4). Jordan capped a 4-1 rally for DU midway through the set with a kill, pushing the Panthers lead to two (17-15). With the score knotted at 23 apiece, Karley Pretzer recorded a kill to set in motion a 3-1 run for DU to secure a 26-24 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Davenport had a quick start in the third set, going ahead 7-1 and forcing a Parkside timeout. However, the Rangers slowly worked their way back, eventually getting within two (14-12),  but a kill from Jordan fueled a 4-1 DU rally, growing its lead back to six (18-12). The Panthers ended the set on a 3-1 run, capped by a Kaitlyn Marsh kill, to secure the sweep following a 25-19 win.

Leading the way for the Panthers was Alan with 16 kills, 13 digs, three aces and two assists. Pretzer and Marsh each tallied seven kills, while Turnquist chipped in with five. Hansen ended with her sixth double-double of the season, dishing out a match-high 31 assists and registering 10 digs.
