GLIAC Announces Postseason Awards for Football

Myren Harris was named GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year for the second straight season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced their postseason awards for the 2024 campaign.

Redshirt senior Myren Harris is taking home GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year for the second straight season with the Panthers. If you combine his awards with his time at Wayne State, Harris is a three-time First Team All-GLIAC pick (2021, 2023, 2024) and a Second Team All-GLIAC selection (2022). He won the league rushing title for the second year in a row with 849 rushing yards on 162 carries (5.2 YPR) and tied for third in the conference with six rushing touchdowns. He also became a threat catching the ball out of the backfield in his final season. Harris was second on the team with 32 receptions for 336 yards and two additional scores. He leaves Davenport as the school's all-time leading rusher with 1,825 yards and 10 touchdowns and over his four years ran for 3,510 yards in 40 games for an average of 87.8 yards per contest.

Senior Preston Smith is being honored as First Team All-GLIAC for the second straight season and is now a three-time all-conference recipient after being named Second Team All-GLIAC in his first season (2022). Smith leaves Davenport as the all-time leader in receiving touchdowns (18) and receptions per game (3.61). He also ranks second in receiving yards (1,605) and total catches (112). He missed only one game in his career with the Panthers back in 2022 and finished his career with 21 straight games played. This season, he caught 36 passes for 540 yards and six touchdowns. He ranked second in the conference in touchdown receptions and fourth in receiving yards.

Senior Brandon Gielow is earning his second First Team All-GLIAC award having also received it in 2022. Gielow is a three-time all-conference selection as he earned Second Team All-GLIAC in 2023. He became the school's all-time leading scorer earlier this season and departs the Panthers with 191 career points consisting of 31 field goals and 98 extra points. This season, Gielow connected on a career-best 12 field goals in 16 attempts and went a perfect 31-of-31 in extra points. He ranked 17th in Division II in field goal percentage this season and 21st in field goals made per game (1.09).

Senior Geemontae Peck is being honored as First Team All-GLIAC for the second consecutive season. He has been a force on the defensive line for three years as a Panther and concludes his career with 124 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks. He ranks ninth in DU history in total tackles, fifth in sacks, and seventh in tackles for loss. This year, he had a career-best 50 tackles which ranked third on the team to go along with 10 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also blocked two kicks becoming the second Panther to do that in a season.

Graduate student Cameren Grodhaus, the transfer from Lake Erie College, is receiving First Team All-GLIAC in his one and only season with the program. He made the biggest impact on defense in the secondary with his hard-hitting style. He led the team with 94 tackles and ranked first in the GLIAC in total tackles by a margin of 10 tackles. He broke the single-game tackle record at DU with 25 against Northern Michigan on Nov. 9. He earned D2Football.com national and GLIAC defensive player of the week honors after that performance. The 25 tackles is the most by any player in all NCAA divisions this season. He ranked fourth in the GLIAC in passes defended (11) and his three interceptions tied for the team lead with Christian Jones and was tied for third in the conference. Grodhaus had the fourth highest tackle total among defensive backs in Division II. For his career, Grodhaus recorded 319 tackles with 225 of those coming at Lake Erie in three seasons. Grodhaus is currently fifth among active NCAA Division II players in career tackles.

Graduate student Kendall Williams made an impact in his one year at Davenport since transferring from Wayne State and was named First Team All-GLIAC for the third straight season. Williams is being honored as a specialist in 2024 and did a little of everything for the Panthers. He rushed 53 times for 256 yards and a touchdown, caught 35 passes for 323 yards and three scores, and returned six kickoffs for 144 yards. He ranks tied for sixth in a season at DU in receptions and is ninth in all-purpose yards with 730. He played a total of 41 collegiate games and finished with 1,758 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, 3,675 all-purpose yards, and 111 catches for 1,086 yards and three touchdowns.

Graduate student Sam Lofton helped solidify the offensive line in his first season after transferring from Notre Dame College in Ohio. He was named Second Team All-GLIAC after appearing in and starting 10 games. He was the signal caller at center and helped the Panthers average 142.3 yards per game on the ground.

Redshirt senior Christian Jones is earning Second Team All-GLIAC after being named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC a year ago. Jones finished the season with 46 tackles including 30 solo stops. He also tied for the team lead with three interceptions for 67 return yards. He returned one interception 65 yards at Saginaw Valley State, which was the second-longest interception return in school history. He played in 39 career games for the Panthers and finished with 118 tackles (10th at DU), five interceptions (4th at DU), and 14 passes defended (7th at DU).

Davenport also had five student-athletes earn Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors. Graduate student Austin Alward played in the most games in Davenport history (43) and finished his career with 139 tackles, 40.5 tackles for loss, and 19.5 sacks. He is the all-time leader at DU in tackles for loss and sacks. Sophomore Austin Stief took a step forward this season finishing with 36 tackles including eight tackles for loss and half a sack. Fifth-year senior Deeb Alawan, in his first season after transferring from Ashland, collected 39 tackles including 10.5 tackles for loss. He also led the team with 5.5 sacks, which ranked fourth in the GLIAC. Graduate student Justin White, in his first season after transferring from Michigan State, ranked fourth on the team with 48 tackles (33 solo). In addition, he collected four tackles for loss, one sack for a loss of 15 yards, and two interceptions. Redshirt senior Zach Slapnicker, a transfer from Notre Dame College in Ohio, played and started in all 11 games at right tackle.
