GLIAC – Abby Alan and
Hayley Carr of the Davenport University women's volleyball team have earned All-GLIAC honors for the 2024 season, as announced by the league on Friday morning. Alan was named Second Team All-GLIAC, while Carr was an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection as a freshman.
As a sophomore in 2024, Alan had a breakout season emerging as the top offensive threat for the Panthers. She led the squad in kills (354), kills per set (3.40), points (406) and service aces (34). The Burlington, Wis. native also was second on the team in digs (239). Alan ended the season with 11 double-doubles and eclipsed 20 kills five times this season. In her best match of the year, Alan recorded a career-high 22 kills to go along with 10 digs, three total blocks and two aces in a 3-2 victory over Parkside (Oct. 5).
"Abby is the kind of player every coach dreams of having on their team," said head coach Charley Andrews. "She approaches every practice with incredible focus and determination to improve, becoming the backbone of our team and carrying that responsibility with grace. Watching her growth from freshman to sophomore year, not just as a player but as a leader, was fun to see. Abby's potential is undeniable, and she's ready to be a major force in the GLIAC over the next two years. I feel incredibly fortunate to be on the sidelines to witness her journey."
Carr was the only Panther to play in all 105 sets this season, serving as the primary libero for DU. In her first season, she led the team in digs (404) and digs per set (3.85), while ranking second in assists (73). The Hudsonville, Mich. native notched 20-plus digs in four matches. Her best game of the season came against Bemidji State (Sept. 13), when she tallied 34 digs and three service aces.
"Hayley stepped into the libero role with confidence, competing daily to elevate her game and our team," Andrews said. "As a freshman, she handled the challenge of covering half the court in serve receive with maturity and grit, keeping us in-system and helping secure a GLIAC Tournament spot. She's a true competitor with immense potential, and I'm excited to watch her grow over the next three years."
