HUDSONVILLE, Mich. - The Davenport men's ACHA Division I hockey team spotted No. 20 Grand Valley State a goal on Thursday night at Griff's Georgetown Ice Arena and then proceeded to rip off the final seven goals of the game in a 7-1 rout of the Lakers for their fourth straight win (10-5 overall). The Panthers moved to 3-2 in the Great Lakes 6 Conference and won for the second straight game over Grand Valley State after dropping nine of their previous 10 meetings.
Davenport saved their best for the third period as they outshot the Lakers 13-5 and outscored them 4-0. The power play for Davenport was also stellar scoring three times.
Trent Benedict scored a hat trick for Davenport to push his season total to a team-leading 11 goals. He scored at 19:42 of the first period to tie the game after Carson Wood opened the scoring for GVSU at 14:20. After
Robert McLaughlin's fourth goal of the season at 4:43 of the second period on the power play, Benedict scored his own power play goal at 15:13 unassisted to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

Ryder McMillen scored in the third period along with Benedict's third goal of the game.

Peter Stojcevski,
Dylan Jouppi, and
Kristers Klavins each had one assist in the final period.
Kyler Lowden faced 20 shots on stopped 19 of them in net for the Panthers. He improved to 6-2 this season with a 2.24 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.
The road doesn't get any easier over the next two days as the Panthers will face No. 11 Drury at Patterson Ice Center on Friday at 8:35 PM and Saturday at 3:35 PM. It is the first time these teams will face each other.
