Panthers End Road Trip with Loss to Rangers

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport University men's basketball team fell to Parkside 80-61 Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17) at DeSimone Gymnasium. Marcedus Leech Jr. has now scored at least 20 points in seven of the previous 9 games for the Panthers (9-15, 4-10 GLIAC) as he finished with 20 while adding four rebounds and four steals (season-high).

DU secured its first lead 6:13 into the first half, following a pair of free throws by Leech Jr. to put the Panthers ahead of the Rangers (12-13, 7-8 GLIAC) 12-11. Jakub Dombek secured a steal and then laid it up on the other end on the ensuing possession to grow the DU lead to three.

One minute later, Dombek threw down a dunk to cap a 10-0 Davenport run, propelling the lead to nine (20-11), with 12:14 remaining. UWP stormed back behind 18 first-half points from Colin O'Rourke to take a 37-32 lead into the break.

After trailing by 13 (54-41) with 11:54 remaining, DU pieced together an 8-2 run, trimming its deficit to seven with just over eight minutes remaining. The Rangers pulled away late, putting together a 16-6 run, which spanned 4:34 and gave UWP a 72-55 lead.

Both teams shot lights out from the charity stripe. Davenport shot a season-high 90 percent from the line, while Parkside shot over 87 percent in its 24 attempts.

For the Panthers, James Felton ended the night with eight points and three rebounds in the loss. Jaden Terrell and Dombek each chipped in with seven points, while Matas Deksnys chipped in with six.
