Panthers Complete Day One of Blue Bridge Battle

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -  The Davenport University softball team dropped its opening two games at the Blue Bridge Battle on Friday afternoon (Feb. 23) at Deaconess Sports Park, falling to Trevecca Nazarene and Missouri-St. Louis.

Game 1 vs. Trevecca Nazarene
Result: L, 11-3
How it happened
Alexis Gills secured the Panthers' (2-5, 0-0 GLIAC) first hit of the day as she singled to left field. After Hayley Kreiger was walked on the ensuing at-bat, Savanna Disbrow knocked one out of the park for her first home run in a DU uniform, giving them a 3-1 lead heading into the second inning.

However, the Trojan (9-2, 0-0 G-MAC), slowly pulled away, scoring at least one run in all seven innings. TNU made a pitching change after the first inning, subbing in their ace Ashlan Sensing, as she held the Panthers to one hit for the remainder of the game.

Along with Gills and Disbrow, Alex Rendon and Elisse Omey, each finished the game with one hit. Three different Panthers entered the circle, Cecelia Bell, Kelsey Byers and Alayna Pinkelman. The trio combined for five strikeouts in the loss.

Game 2 vs. Missouri-St. Louis
Result: L, 6-2
How it happened
Trailing 4-0 heading into the fourth inning, the Panthers were able to score their first runs of the game. Omey stepped up to the plate with runners on first and second and singled. Following an error from the left fielder, Omey advanced to second, while Sophia Propps and Raegen Smith reached home.

After trimming the deficit to two (4-2), Davenport could only record one more hit the rest of the game while the Tritons (3-2, 0-0 GLVC) scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings.

Smith led the way for DU, finishing with two hits and a run in the loss. Omey added two hits for the Panthers, while Gills chipped in with one.

In the circle, Hailey Whisman ended with four strikeouts, pitching all six innings for Davenport. With the loss, the freshman moves to 2-2 in the circle for the year.
