Late Push Falls Short in Senior Day Loss to Bulldogs

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's basketball team fell on senior day to Ferris State 75-64 on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 24) at the DU Student Center.

After falling behind by as many as 10 points in the second half, the Panthers (9-17, 4-12 GLIAC) remained within striking distance of the Bulldogs (20-7, 10-6 GLIAC). A 6-2 run by DU to trim the deficit to four (58-54) was sparked by Jaden Terrell with 8:30 remaining, as he grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it up off the glass.

Matas Deksnys was fouled while nailing a three-pointer from the right wing off an assist from Raishaun Brown with 2:45 to go. The junior forward then knocked down the free throw to convert the four-point play, giving Davenport its first lead of the second half (61-60).

However, the Bulldogs closed out the game on a 12-1 run to close out the game, making eight free throws during that span.

Leading the way for the Panthers was Myles Belyeu, scoring 18 points and grabbing five rebounds. The 6-4 guard has scored at least 17 points in his last four outings. Deksnys poured in 15 points, hitting four triples in the loss. Jeff Carrier chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.

With the loss, Davenport has officially been eliminated from the GLIAC conference tournament.
