Panthers Split Final Day at Blue Bridge Battle

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Davenport University softball team concluded its time at the Blue Bridge Battle on Sunday (Feb. 25), falling to Findlay 7-6 before taking down Northwood 4-2 to close out the weekend.

Game 1 vs. Findlay
Result: L, 7-6
How it Happened
Hayley Kreiger scored the first run of the game in the first inning following a single from Savanna Disbrow in the top of the first inning.

Davenport had its best offensive output in the second inning, starting with hits from Raegen Smith and Elisse Omey. Stepping up to the plate with the two runners on base, Alexis Gills hit a home run over the left field fence, putting the Panthers up 4-2.

The Oilers led 7-4 heading into the final inning. Gills recorded another big hit, a triple to right field, which brought home Brooke Bernt. On the ensuing at-bat, Gills reached home to trim the deficit to one (7-6).

Gills led the way in the loss for the Panthers, finishing with two hits, four RBIs and two runs. Disbrow and Bernt each chipped in with a pair of hits for DU.

Cecelia Bell and Kelsey Byers split time in the circle, combining for five strikeouts in the loss.

Game 2 vs. Northwood
Result: W, 4-2
How it Happened
The Panthers closed out the weekend with a bit of revenge, knocking off the Timberwolves after falling to NU last weekend by one run.

Gills scored the opening run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. After being walked to get on base, Kreiger singled to right center field allowing Gills to round third base and reach home plate.

Davenport grew its lead to three in the bottom of the fourth inning following a pair of runs. Smith drilled a triple to right field which brought home Riley Hasseld. Smith then scored on the ensuing at-bat, which was a sacrifice fly to center field by Liv Regenfuss.

In the sixth inning, Regenfuss reached home off a double from Gills, setting the score at 4-2 heading into the final inning.

Smith ended the game with two hits, one run and an RBI to lead the way for DU.

Hailey Whisman pitched all seven innings for the Panthers, tossing three strikeouts. The freshman now has three wins on the year, which leads the team.
