WLAX Preview: DU travels to Lake Erie for first-ever meeting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - With a fourth-straight road game on the horizon, the Davenport University women's lacrosse team will look to shake off a heartbreaking loss last weekend.

DU went down to the wire with Ashland University on Feb. 25, ultimately losing 11-10 after a goal by the Eagles in the closing minutes sealed the victory for Ashland.

Maddy Haynes led the Panthers with three goals and two assists, followed by two goals from Blakely Malpass and Mika Kulynych. Marisa Scola, Emma Hulshof, and Alyssa Bird added one goal each in the loss.

With a 1-1 record, DU faces a first-time opponent for a single-game week.

Lake Erie Matchup
The Storm is coming off a week-long break after splitting the opening weekend (Feb. 16-18) in a loss to Charleston (14-6) and a win over West Virginia Wesleyan (14-8).

Brooke McNeal has led the charge thus far with six goals on eight shot attempts while tallying a team-high 13 groundballs and 11 draw controls. McNeal is fifth overall in the GMAC standings for total goals. Erin Snyder has been a catalyst for setting up the offense as the team leader in assists (six), tied for second in the GMAC. Shannon Smith (t-first GMAC) continues to be a disruptive force on the defensive end with eight caused turnovers, marking seven in the victory over W.V. Wesleyan to set the single-game program record.

Selected to finish last in the GMAC this year, Lake Erie welcomed first-year head coach Mallory Bahr for the 2024 season.

Feb. 27 will be the first meeting between the Panthers and Storm in program history.
