Panthers tally fourth win, down Pioneers in first-ever meeting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University men's lacrosse continued their winning ways after a 19-10 victory over the Malone Pioneers to remain undefeated (4-0), starting the all-time series with a win.

Malone took an early 1-0 lead at the 12:48 mark, but this would be the only time the Pioneers led all game as the Panthers quickly responded just 30 seconds later with a goal from Jayden Ashley (assist Griffin Poll), Ashley's first of five goals in the game.

An offensive landslide developed for DU for the next two minutes, as goals from Braylon Baker, Trevor McDonald, and Keelan McKouen (all unassisted) put the Panthers up 4-1. Dawson Gillette added the final score of the first period for DU to take a 5-2 advantage going into the second.

DU's defense held Malone to one goal in the latter 15 minutes of the first half as the Panthers went on a 6-1 scoring run, all amid severe weather conditions. Even so, the landslide continued in the second half as an 8-7 scoring run in favor of DU sealed the team's fourth-straight victory.

Ashley led all scorers as Braylon Baker (three assists) followed suit with four, three from McKouen and Sean Ryan, and one goal from McDonald, Gillette, Ty Woods, and Luke Eichbauer. As a team, DU was 19 of 31 in the circle. Daniel Milano took over the goalkeeping duties for most of the game (52:38) while making 10 saves.

Adding to their historic winning streak to start a season, the Panthers are matched against Lake Erie this Saturday, March 2, at the DU Turf Field to cap off a three-game homestand.
