2024 Women's Lacrosse Season Preview

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Ahead of the 2024 campaign, the Davenport University women's lacrosse team was selected No. 4 in the GLIAC Preseason Poll.

Haley Schmucker enters her second season as the head coach of the Panthers, finishing 2-15 last season after falling to then No. 16 Grand Valley State in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament. Former player Christine Steffes has transitioned into a leadership role, now serving as the assistant coach for the Panthers after playing five seasons and being named First Team All-GLIAC in her final year.

First Team All-GLIAC honoree and upcoming junior midfielder Blakely Malpass leveled up after a promising rookie campaign, leading DU in goals (38), free position goals (12), shots on goal (68), and points (46) in 2023. Malpass also posted an impressive .723 shot-on-goal clip while placing second in total assists (eight) for the team.

Named to the Second Team All-GLIAC list, upcoming junior midfielder Theadora Krueger will look to be an anchor on defense for the Panthers after leading the team in caused turnovers (21) and groundballs (38)

DU will play seven games at home and eight on the road, the first of five road games coming consecutively to kick off the season on Feb. 16 at Thomas Moore.
