WLAX Preview: Panthers at home for a trio of non-conference matchups

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Opening the year with five straight road games between Feb. 17 and March 9, the Davenport University women's lacrosse team has a three-game homestand on tap to round out the month of March.

This week's matchups come after a road loss against then-No. 13 Indianapolis that finished 18-6 and dealt the Panthers their second loss of the season (2-2). Blakely Malpass tallied two goals in the effort, with one goal each coming from Maddy Haynes, Brianna Rodriguez, Gabby Basha, and Theadora Krueger. Maisy Latus tallied 13 saves, marking her second-most in a single game this season.

With just over eight days of rest and preparation in the books, DU will look to capitalize on the long-awaited home-field advantage.

McKendree Matchup
The Bearcats have turned things around as of late after starting the season 0-4. Riding a three-game winning streak, McKendree starts a two-game road trip at DU with one game at home to round out this week.

Olivia Julian leads the team in goal total (18) with a .439 shot percentage on 45 shots that sees her at No. 6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Amber Hayden leads the conference with 10.38 saves per game at the goalie position (83 total), with the fifth-best goals-against average at 10.13. Jayna Barnden's 15 goals are the team's second-highest.

McKendree leads the all-time series 4-1 over DU, winning the last matchup 12-9 in Illinois as the Panthers look to tally another win.

Quincy Matchup (POSTPONED)
2023 First Team All-GLVC honoree Danielle Robinson sits at No. 2 in the GLVC standings for goal total (33) with a fifth conference-best 3.67 goals per game, leading her team on the offensive end. Four other Hawks have also reached double digits in goal tally: Amelia Ham (16), Emily Leal (15), Patricia Chavira (11), and Anni Moran (10).

With their previous two-game win streak snapped last season, the Panthers lead the historical matchup 2-1 over the Hawks as Quincy (3-6) looks to end a three-game losing streak in their two matches this week.

Selected to finish No. 6 in the conference, Quincy is four wins away from improving on last year's 6-11 overall record.

This game was initially scheduled for Friday, March 22, but was postponed to Tuesday, April 9, due to inclimate weather.

Lewis Matchup
DU has averaged 21.3 goals over Lewis through three games in the all-time series, maintaining a perfect 3-0 record while holding the Flyers to just over six goals per contest.

Meltonique Bowen (26) Daniella Winterlik (21) lead the squad in goals, as Myah Templeton performs as the team's sole goalie. Templeton has recorded 68 saves with a 9.98 goals-against average for the third-best in the GLVC.

The Flyers are making a stop in Grand Rapids to face Aquinas College and DU with hopes to improve their current 4-3 record.
