Panthers drop league game at Maryville

ST. LOUIS, MO - Davenport University men's lacrosse dropped a conference matchup against No. 16 Maryville University, the Panthers falling 20-8 on the road.

DU could not secure its first-ever victory against the Saints as the all-time series fell to 0-5 for the Panthers.

Maryville struck first with three unanswered goals early in the first period, but DU responded with two straight goals to bring the deficit to just one goal (3-2) with 5:31 remaining. However, the Saints continued their offensive heater, adding four goals between the 2:36 and 0:20 marks to blow the lead open.

A tighter scoring contest in the second fell in advantage for Maryville, with a 5-3 run making the halftime score 12-5. The Saints managed another big run in the third (6-2) to seal the deal, as the Panthers were outscored 2-1 in the final period.

Braylon Baker, Dylan Day, and Dawson Gillette were the combined trio that led DU in goals (two apiece), with Luke Eichbauer and Luke Fritz adding a goal to the effort. Defensively, Chris Junkunc tallied three caused turnovers as Daniel Milano and Andy Trapp tied for a team-high in ground balls with five each. Milano also made 15 saves for his third-highest total this season.

Suffering their second loss of the season (8-2 overall, 0-2 GLVC), the Panthers will continue league play as they host Quincy University on Saturday, April 6, at the DU Turf Field.
