Baker records 12 points to lead Panthers over Dominican

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - In the first-ever meeting between the programs, the Davenport University men's lacrosse team defeated Dominican University (CA) 13-10 in a neutral site battle.

Braylon Baker had a career day, stuffing the stat sheet with a team-high five goals and seven assists while recording five groundballs. Four assists came in the first 15 minutes alone, leading the Panthers to a 5-0 shutout to end the first period. Keelan McKouen tallied the game's first goal (assist Trevor McDonald), with Luke Eichbauer and Dawson Gillette adding the ensuing four goals at two apiece.

DU couldn't maintain the momentum in the second as the team went scoreless and gave up three Penguin goals but responded with a 4-0 scoring run in the third period to regain a sizable advantage over Dominican (CA). Three of the four goals came from Baker as Jayden Ashley found the back of the net for his first of two scores in the game (assist Baker).

The Panthers managed a 3-2 run to take a 12-5 lead just inside the 10-minute mark of the fourth quarter, but the defense let up on the pressure enough to allow the Penguins to go on a 5-1 scoring run for the remainder of the game. However, Dominican (CA) fell short of a comeback as DU held on to improve their win streak to six straight games.

Strong play on defense saw the Panthers tally 11 caused turnovers as Daniel Milano made 10 saves in the net - the team going 24 of 28 on clearances.

Baker led the offensive side, with two goals from Ashley, McKouen, Eichbauer, and Gillette. Eichbuaer, McDonald, and Griffin Poll added one assist for the team's total of 10.

DU continues their road trip at Walsh University on Saturday, March 9, ahead of conference play.
