Panthers Conclude Space Coast Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Davenport University softball team concluded its time at the Space Coast games, falling to Cedarville and Holy Family on Saturday (March 9) at the Space Coast Complex.

Game 1 vs. Cedarville
Result: L, 2-1 (8 Inn.)
How it Happened
In the top of the second inning, the Panthers scored their only run of the game to set the score at one apiece. Brooke Bernt drove in Alexis Gills with a single to second base to score the run.

Hayley Kreiger and Riley Hasseld each recorded a single in the first inning but were unable to score.

Gills was also able to record a single to left field in the top of the fourth inning.

Cecelia Bell and Kelsey Byers split time in the circle, each recording three strikeouts in the loss for Davenport

Game 2 vs. Holy Family
Result: L, 6-2
How it Happened
Trailing by four heading into the sixth inning, Kreiger knocked her second home run of the weekend out of the park. The two-run homer also brought home Hasseld, setting the score at 6-2 in favor of the Tigers.

However, Holy Family answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-2 lead into the final inning.

Bernt, Hasseld, Kreiger, Gills and Elisse Omey all recorded a hit in the loss for the Panthers.

Hailey Whisman and Alayna Pinkelman split time in the circle, combining for four strikeouts in the contest.

Up Next
The Panthers will open conference play on Saturday, March 23, in a doubleheader against Purdue Northwest at 2 p.m. in Hammond, Ind.
