Panthers Split with Ferris State on Saturday Afternoon

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University softball team split with Ferris State on Saturday afternnoon in the second doubleheader of the season between the two squads.

Game 1
Result: L, L, 7-0
How it Happened
Ferris State came out hot to start the opening game of the doubleheader, putting up four runs in the opening inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Savanna Disbrow opened the ensuing inning with a double to center field for the Panthers. She was then able to advance to third as Sophia Propps grounded out on the next at-bat. However, with Disbrow in scoring position, FSU recorded two more outs and DU could not put a run on the board.

Riley Hasseld also recorded a hit for the Panthers in the top of the third, but couldn't make her way home with no other hits from DU in the inning.

Alayna Pinkelman and Cecelia Bell split time in the circle for the Panthers, combining for three strikeouts in the contest.

Game 2
Result: W, 4-1
How it Happened
Savanna Disbrow knocked her second home run of the season out of the park in the second inning, giving DU a 2-0 lead.

After hitting a single to center field, Liv Regenfuss capped off the scoring in the second inning, reaching home following a bad throw to first base allowing her to round third and reach home.

The Panther defense was stout, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning and holding the Bulldogs scoreless until the bottom of the fifth.

Leading 3-1 heading into the sixth, Alexis Gills recorded a hit on a slow-moving ball to the third baseman and she beat out the throw. Disbrow again stepped up big in the ensuing at-bat, drilling a double to right center field, bringing home Gills, and expanding the DU lead to three (4-1).

Disbrow ended the game batting 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to lead the way for DU. Gills added a pair of hits and two runs for the Panthers, while Regenfuss ended the game with two hits and a run scored.

Hailey Whisman picked up her seventh win of the season in the circle, only allowing four hits through seven innings pitched.
