Panthers Drop Pair of Defensive Battles to Pride

HAMMOND, Ind. - The Davenport University softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to begin the week against Purdue Northwest on Tuesday afternoon. The doubleheader marked the first of four this week for the Panthers (13-21, 5-7 GLIAC).

Game 1
Result: L, 4-3
How it Happened
After a slow start offensively from both sides, the Davenport offense found success in the top of the third. DU took a 2-0 lead, registering four hits in the inning and leaving two runners on base.

Hayley Kreiger brought both of the opening runs home with a two-RBI double to right center, bringing home Riley Hasseld and Brooke Bernt.

In the top of the sixth, Sophia Propps got on base with a single through the left side, then rounded the bases on the ensuing at-bat to put the Panthers ahead 3-0.

The Pride (26-18, 11-7 GLIAC) put together a late-game rally, coming back to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the one-run lead late.

Hasseld led the charge offensively for Davenport, batting 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Kreiger added a pair of hits, while Alexis Gills, Propps, Bernt and Liv Regenfuss all registered one hit.
