Panthers Swept by Rangers on Thursday Afternoon

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport University softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against Parkside on Thursday afternoon at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.

Game 1
Result: L, 9-1 (6 Inn.)
How it Happened
After a scoreless first two innings, the Rangers (16-27, 7-11 GLIAC) did most of their damage in the third, scoring six runs on five hits. Parkside followed that up with two more runs to gain an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The Panthers (13-23, 5-9 GLIAC) put their first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Alexis Gills began the inning with a double to right center field. However, it was Savanna Disbrow who reached home plate following a missile from Elisse Omey through the left side.

Omey led the Panthers' offense, batting a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI. Hayley Kreiger finished the game with two hits, while Gills, Disbrow, Becca Daoust and Sophia Propps all added a hit for DU.

Game 2
Result: L, 11-6
How it Happened
Daoust secured her first career home run in the bottom of the third inning, doing so without hitting it over the fence, as she hit the ball into deep left field and used her speed to round the bases. The home run from Daoust also brought home Brooke Bernt, who had been walked in the previous at bat.

However, the Rangers responded in the ensuing inning with three runs, taking a 9-2 lead over the Panthers.

Down eight in the bottom of the seventh, DU had its best inning of the day, scoring three runs to trim the deficit to five (11-6). The scoring started with a double from Gills, which allowed Kreiger to reach home from first base.

Gills rounded the bases on the following at-bat, as Disbrow doubled down the right field line. Disbrow went on to score the final run of the game off an RBI from Liv Regenfuss.

Daoust finished the game batting 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for DU. Kreiger ended batting a perfect 4-for-4 with one run scored, while Gills added two hits, two RBIs and a run. Disbrow chipped in with one hit, one RBI and a run scored for Davenport.
