MIDLAND, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team was unable to pull off the upset on Friday (Apr. 26) in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament against three-seed Grand Valley State. The Lakers advanced with a 4-0 win while the season comes to an end for the Panthers (11-14 overall).
Jan Stolin and
Subash Paramasivam competed at No. 1 doubles against Sean Miller and Freddy Cossio. The Laker duo pulled out a 6-4 win and set the tone.
Marius Pion and
Max Dion fell 6-2 at No. 3 doubles against Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov to secure the best two-of-three for the team point.
Paramasivam split a pair of sets at No. 2 singles against Miller but the match went unfinished because the fourth point was secured to end the match. Paramasivam won 6-3 in the first set and fell 6-4 in the second set. Stolin lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles against Denys Zamaraiev.
Carlos Henriquez fell 6-3, 6-3 against Lucas Gonzalez at No. 3 singles. Pion lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles against Victor Lopes.
