MARQUETTE, Mich. -  The Davenport University women's volleyball team began its annual trip to Michigan's upper peninsula with a matchup against Northern Michigan. The Panthers (2-9, 0-3 GLIAC) fell to the Wildcats (7-3, 3-0 GLIAC) on Friday afternoon 3-1 at Vandament Arena.

Abby Alan ended the match with 10 kills to lead DU, marking her sixth straight contest notching double-digit kills.

Davenport struggled early on falling behind 2-0 after dropping the first sets 25-10 and 25-6.

However, the Panthers bounced back in the third, taking down the Wildcats 25-21 to avoid the sweep. DU started the third set on a 7-1 run, which featured three consecutive kills from Alan to help establish an early lead. NMU came back to take a two-point advantage late (19-17). A kill from Kaitlyn Marsh off a Mehl Hansen assist set in motion a 5-1 rally and DU regained the lead (22-20). With the set tied 22 apiece, the Panthers scored three straight, including an ace from Hansen, to take its first set of the match.

In the final set, the Wildcats got out to an insurmountable 22-11 lead. The Panthers put together a 5-1 rally late to trim the deficit to seven (24-27), but Northern Michigan ended the match on the ensuing play off a kill from Jacqueline Smith.
