Vrabel Scores Season-High as Panthers Fall to Lakers

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Davenport University men's basketball team fell 85-67 to Roosevelt in their first meeting as conference foes on Saturday afternoon at the Goodman Center. Freshman Matyas Vrabel scored a season-high 20 points, shooting 8-four-12 from the field in the loss for the Panthers (5-11, 1-7 GLIAC).  

Six minutes into the game, the Lakers (5-10, 2-5 GLIAC) got out to a quick 13-point advantage, leading the Panthers 19-6. DU answered with back-to-back three-pointers on the ensuing possessions to trim its deficit to seven (19-12).  

With 7:35 remaining in the first half, the Panthers put together a 10-0 run, spanning 4:00 and featuring eight points from Vrabel, setting the score at 28-25 in favor of RU. 

After entering the second half trailing by double digits (38-27) the Panthers were unable to get back within single digits in the second half. 

Montrel Oliver Jr. finished in double figures for the second time this season, scoring 10 points in 23 minutes of action for DU. Jaden Terrell added eight points, five rebounds and one assist in the loss for the Panthers. Dylan Smith, Aidan Moon and Alden Ritt all chipped in with six points for Davenport.

The Panthers will return home next Thursday (Jan. 23), taking on Purdue Northwest at 7:30 p.m. at the DU Student Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
