Cabana Nets Season-High as Panthers Fall Short Against Huskies

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Joey Cabana scored a season-high 23 points for the Davenport University men's basketball team as the Panthers fell 77-69 to Michigan Tech on Thursday afternoon at the SDC Gymnasium. The freshman did the majority of his damage at the free throw line, shooting an impressive 11-for-12 from the charity stripe while knocking down a pair of three-pointers.

After falling behind by nine (29-20), the Panthers (5-14, 1-10 GLIAC) put together a 7-2 run, spurred by a three-pointer from Raishaun Brown to trim the deficit to four (31-27). Brown scored the final bucket of the opening half, finishing the opening 20 minutes with a team-high 10 points, while the Huskies (14-5, 9-2 GLIAC) led 34-29 going into the break.

With 2:12 remaining in the game, Davenport mounted an impressive comeback attempt, going on a 9-0 run over the ensuing 1:44 to cut the MTU lead to six (73-67) with 28 seconds left. However, the Panthers could not complete the comeback as the Huskies nailed four consecutive free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

Brown finished the evening with 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers for the Panthers. Matyas Vrabel added eight points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Jovan Tucker tallied eight points, one rebound, two assists and two steals for DU. Dylan Smith chipped in with seven points and five boards for Davenport.
