Panthers Conclude Trip Up North with Loss to Wildcats

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Davenport University men's basketball team closed its trip to Michigan's upper peninsula with an 86-57 loss to Northern Michigan on Saturday afternoon at the Berry Events Center.

Jovan Tucker helped propel the Panthers (5-15, 1-11 GLIAC) to a strong first half, scoring 16 points in the opening 20 minutes. With 6:32 remaining in the first half, a layup by Tucker spurred an 11-2 Davenport run, putting the Panthers ahead 29-27. During that stretch, Tucker scored nine of the 1 DU points.

However, the Wildcats (14-6, 8-4 GLIAC) put together an impressive 20-5 run in the early stages of the second half to take an 18-point lead.

Leading the way for the Panthers in the loss was Tucker, scoring a team-high 18 points. Matyas Vrabel added 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Dylan Smith finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Joey Cabana chipped in with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers.
