GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Despite a boost from
Anna Axtell's four three-pointers, Davenport fell to Tiffin, 65–48, on Saturday at the DU Student Center, as the Dragons used a dominant second half to pull away.
The Panthers trailed by just one at halftime, 29–28, after a competitive first 20 minutes that featured multiple lead changes and an overall solid defensive showing. Davenport held Tiffin to 37.5 percent shooting in the opening quarter and closed the half with a timely three from Axtell to stay within striking distance.
The game shifted in the third quarter, where Tiffin pieced together a 12–4 run over the final five minutes to create separation. The Dragons shot 50 percent in the period and outscored DU 19–11 to take a 48–39 lead into the fourth. DU struggled to match the offensive pace, finishing the quarter 4-of-16 from the floor.
Tiffin continued its momentum into the fourth with a 9–3 burst that extended the lead to double digits. The Panthers were hampered by turnovers throughout the day, finishing with 23 giveaways that led to key Dragon scoring opportunities. Despite DU's six blocks and seven steals, the Dragons controlled the paint (28–18) and found efficiency in their ball movement, totaling 16 assists on 25 made shots.
