DU Holds Rollins to 42, Marks Program’s Lowest Allowed Since 2017

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Davenport turned in its strongest defensive performance in nearly eight years, holding Rollins College to 42 points in a 64–42 victory Thursday at the ICI Center. The total marked the fewest points allowed by the Panthers since a 43–41 win over Wayne State on Dec. 16, 2017.

DU set the tone early, using efficient shooting and steady defensive pressure to build a 14–10 first-quarter lead. The Panthers connected on two 3-pointers—first by Anna Axtell and later by Ellie Toney—and controlled the glass with 11 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive end. Rollins scored six points off turnovers, but DU forced three miscues and limited the Tars to 24 percent shooting in the opening period.

The Panthers asserted control in the second quarter by capitalizing on Rollins' mistakes, turning eight Tars turnovers into seven points. DU dominated the paint with a 12–2 scoring edge and grabbed eight offensive rebounds to create second-chance opportunities. Despite shooting 26 percent from the field in the quarter, Davenport's defensive pressure produced five steals and helped build a 30–19 halftime advantage.

DU continued to widen the margin in the third, outscoring the Tars 18–11 behind another strong defensive showing. The Panthers recorded three steals while committing just one turnover and scored 12 points in the paint. Rollins maintained a balanced offensive effort but was unable to close the gap, as DU carried a 48–30 lead into the final period.

The Panthers put the game away in the fourth with efficient shooting, connecting on 55 percent from the field and knocking down three 3-pointers. DU's defense held Rollins to just two field goals in the quarter, while the bench added 10 points. Bri Thomas recorded the first collegiate basket of her career with a 3-pointer during the closing stretch, as Davenport cruised to a 64–42 victory.
