GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — In a regional matchup against top-notch teams, Davenport (8-2) secured an 83-74 victory over the University of Findlay (8-4) at the DU Student Center on Saturday afternoon to close out the 2025 portion of the season. Davenport capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 24-of-34 attempts, to help edge past the Oilers.
Ken Walker was perfect from the charity stripe going 12-of-12 and finished with a team-high 25 points in 40 minutes. He connected on six free throws in the final 1:27 to seal the victory.
The Panthers handled the full-court pressure by the Oilers very well and got great guard play from Walker and
Curtis Jackson. Jackson finished with 10 points, five assists, and two steals in 26-plus minutes. Neither team had an advantage in the paint, both scoring 36 points inside. Davenport did control most of the game for their fifth straight win. The Panthers led for 33:01 compared to just 1:23 for the Oilers. The game was played closely throughout with eight ties and four lead changes.
The perimeter defense for the Panthers was outstanding as the Oilers shot 8-of-30 from behind the arc for 26.7 percent. The Panthers were blistering in the second half as they shot 70 percent (14-of-20) and made a living at the free throw line going 19-of-27.
Alden Ritt finished with 14 points, but had his double-double streak come to an end with three rebounds. He did contribute three assists and two blocked shots with no turnovers in just over 30 minutes. Findlay came into the game averaging 91.5 points and were held well below that average. They also shot 40.6 percent from the floor after coming in at 47.6 percent for the season.
