Williams Nets Career-High in Dominating Win Over LSSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  Neveah Williams poured in a career-high 17 points to lead the Davenport women's basketball team to a 74-59 victory over Lake Superior State. The Panthers capitalized on 20 points off turnovers and a dominant 44 points in the paint.

Davenport opened the game with strong ball movement, highlighted by Nevaeh Williams' contributions, including an assist on Kayla Covington's jumper at 9:45 and a fast-break basket assisted by Anna Axtell at 8:05. The Panthers capitalized on turnovers, forcing six from the Lakers while committing only one themselves. Williams added two clutch free throws with 46 seconds remaining to secure a 19–15 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Davenport extended their lead with a series of successful plays in the paint, highlighted by Maddie Geers' layups at 8:43 and 6:49. The Lakers kept pace with a three-pointer from Makenna Clement at 4:57 but struggled to close the gap. The quarter concluded with Davenport getting out to a 34-27 advantage.

DU seized control in the third quarter with a decisive run, highlighted by Geers converting a layup and a free throw at 5:08, pushing its lead to 46–33. Axtell's three-pointer at 5:38, assisted by Williams, further extended their advantage. Despite the Lakers' efforts to close the gap, Davenport maintained their lead, ending the quarter ahead 53–39. 

The final quarter started with an Axtell layup at 9:12, which set the tone for the quarter. Williams contributed significantly with a pair of free throws and a jumper, helping to extend the lead. Despite efforts from the Lakers, including a three-pointer by Clare Conzelmann, Davenport's defense forced multiple turnovers, keeping the Lakers at bay. Geers added a layup at 3:16, and Reese Polega's fastbreak layup at 2:38 further solidified the advantage. The game concluded on Saturday with Davenport recording a victory, 74–59.
