BENSENVILLE, Ill. - The Davenport ACHA Division I men's hockey team went back over the .500 mark (17-16) over the weekend with a pair of GL6 wins on the road at Roosevelt. The Panthers were able to come away with identical 5-1 wins on Friday and Saturday at Edge Ice Arena.
Friday night's affair saw the Panthers pull away in the third period with three unanswered goals. After a scoreless first period,
Brendan Bauer started the scoring at 11:46 of the second period with his ninth goal of the season from
Ryder McMillen and
Peter Stojcevski. Just under five minutes later,
Ryan Blackburn scored his sixth goal of the season from
Justin Turner. Roosevelt got their lone goal at 19:22 of the second period from Chase Caravella.
In the third period, DU had 21 shots on net and buried three of those chances.
Liam Bland's sixth goal of the season made it 3-1 at the 5:57 mark from
Austin Melone and
Dylan Jouppi.
Kristers Klavins added his eighth of the season at 16:04 from
Robert McLaughlin. Stojcevski made it 5-1 as the fifth different Panther to score at 16:55 with his 10th of the season from Melone for his second assist of the night. The final shots were 52-17 in favor of Davenport and
Nathan Gauthier stopped 16 shots in net to earn the win.
Same score on a different day for Saturday, but the game was more even in terms of shots on goal with DU leading 35-27.
Liam Bland was able to score twice pushing his season goal total to eight. He found the back of the net at 12:46 of the first period from
Tyler Kaminski and Bauer and then again at 10:09 of the second period from Blackburn and
Branwen Pollett. Kaminski scored his third goal of the season at 1:02 of the second period for a 2-0 lead. Bauer made it 4-0 at 13:21 of the second period for his 10th goal of the season from McLaughlin and Pollett. Caravella scored Roosevelt's only goal for the second straight game at 19:59 on the power play to end the second period.
Taber Gutschick scored the final DU goal and the only goal of the third period at 5:58 on the lone power play goal of the weekend for the Panthers. It was assisted by
Trent Benedict and was Gutschick's fifth goal of the season.
Kyler Lowden made 26 saves in net to claim the victory.
