Fritz ties career-high in goals, DU falls to No. 9 Saints

ST LOUIS, Mo. - Suffering a tough loss on the road, Davenport University men's lacrosse fell 24-7 to No. 9 Maryville University in the Panthers' second top-10 road matchup this season.

DU couldn't snap its now three-game skid in the trivial contest against the Saints. After slowing up five unanswered goals by the opponent after scores by Luke Fritz (both assisted by Luke Eichbauer), Maryville went on another scoring run to close the first half 12-2.

The third period would prove the most effective for the Panthers, as goals by Jayden Ashley (two), Fritz, and Tyler Burd were met by seven goals from Maryville, 19-6. A four-goal scoring run by the opponent created a 23-6 cushion, as a man-up goal by Ty Woods (assist Dylan Fallon) with 4:12 left to play tallied DU's final score of the night.

Antonio Hart managed 14 saves in goal for the Panthers. Two caused turnovers each for Burd and Reece Meech and four and three ground balls by Meech and Logan Flaherty, respectively, also added to the defensive effort. Fritz (three goals; tied career-high) and Eichbauer (three assists) led the offensive unit, with Jayden Ashley going three-for-three on shot attempts. DU was still without one of its best offensive weapons in 2024 as Braylon Baker awaits his 2025 debut.

The Panthers' 0-3 record hasn't come without effort. Another trio of away games is looming, including a date against the Flyers at Lewis University on Thursday, Feb. 20.
