Moon Shines in Loss to SVSU on Thursday Evening

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Sophomore Aidan Moon scored a career-high 14 points, as the Davenport University men's basketball team fell 81-79 to Saginaw Valley State on Thursday afternoon at the DU Student Center. The wing also made a team-high six shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, marking a new career-best.

Despite the loss, the Panthers (5-20, 1-16 GLIAC) controlled the majority of the contest, as they held the for over 30 minutes out of 40, leading 75.4 percent of the time. 

The Panthers had a quick start to the game, getting out to a 15-point advantage (36-21) with 7:16 remaining in the opening half. Raishaun Brown hit a three-pointer off a Joey Cabana assist in the final seconds of the opening half as DU took a 48-40 lead into halftime. 

After the Cardinals (10-15, 6-11 GLIAC) took their first lead in the second half with 6:04 remaining, Montreal Oliver Jr. tied the game back up at 69 apiece with a dunk off a feed from Dylan Smith. However, the Panthers failed to regain the lead down the stretch and SVSU held on to take home the two-point victory.

Jovan Tucker led the Panthers in scoring, pouring in 15 points, including three three-pointers, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block. Smith finished with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the loss for DU. Matyas Vrabel and Brown each chipped in with eight points apiece for Davenport.

The Panthers will host Wayne State on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 3:00 p.m. at the DU Student Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
