Moon Secures First Career Double-Double, Panthers Fall on Senior Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  Despite a strong first half, the Davenport University men's basketball team fell 81-70 to Wayne State on Saturday afternoon at the DU Student Center. The game served as the team's senior day, honoring Jovan Tucker and Raishaun Brown prior to the start of the contest.

Aidan Moon finished with a career-high in points for the second consecutive game, pouring in 15 in the loss for DU. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native also nailed five three-pointers and grabbed 11 rebounds, both marking career bests and recording his first career double-double. 

The Panthers (5-21, 1-17 GLIAC) had an impressive opening 20 minutes of play, taking a two-point (35-33) lead into the break. Just over three minutes into the game, DU put together a 19-6 run, spanning 6:46, putting the Panthers on top 21-12. During that stretch, Davenport shot 5-for-6 from deep, as Aidan Moon knocked down three of those shots from behind the arc. 

DU shot 48.3 percent from the floor in the first half and 41.7 from deep, while the Warriors (14-12, 10-8 GLIAC) shot 39.3 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the arc. 

In the opening stages of the second half, Wayne State pieced together a 16-4 run, taking a 49-42 advantage. WSU held that lead for the remainder of the contest.

Tucker finished the day with a team-high 18 points for the Panthers, knocking down four three-pointers while adding seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Mtayas Vrabel added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Joey Cabana added nine points off the bench.
