Panthers Conclude Weekend with Loss to #9 Lakers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's basketball team concluded the weekend with a 79-58 loss to No. 9 Lake Superior State on Saturday afternoon at the Davenport Student Center.

It was a competitive first half, in which the Lakers (20-4, 11-3 GLIAC) took a two-point advantage into the break over the Panthers (5-17, 1-13 GLIAC). Jovan Tucker was impressive in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 12 points in the half, which led all scorers at the break.

DU opened the game with a 4-0 lead, holding LSSU scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the contest. Tucker scored eight points in a 1:14 span, to push the Panthers to a 12-8 lead over the Lakers with 13:48 remaining in the first half.

After falling behind by four (24-20) with 5:44 to go in the half, Davenport put together a 6-1 run, capped by a Joey Cabana layup, putting DU ahead 26-25.

Lake Superior State slowly pulled away in the second half, out-scoring the Panthers 46-27 in the final 20 minutes.

Tucker finished with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists, all marking team-highs. Matyas Vrabel added 12 points and three rebounds, while Alden Ritt chipped in with 11 points, three three-pointers and four rebounds.
