Panthers Complete Day One in Missouri

Liberty, Mo. - The Davenport University softball team split its doubleheader with William Jewell on Wednesday afternoon (March 12) at Cardinal Field. It marks the third consecutive doubleheader that the Panthers (9-7, 0-0 GLIAC) have split with their opponents.

Game One
Result: W, 7-2
How it Happened
A single up the middle by Alaina Schwanke in the top of the first inning brought home Kailyne Luna for the first run of the day. On the ensuing at-bat, Grace Gilbert doubled to left field, allowing Schwanke and Ally Prasnjak to round the bases, pushing the DU advantage to three.

Holding a 3-2 advantage, the Panthers' offense exploded in the fifth, recording four hits and four runs. Brooke Bernt tallied the first hit of the inning after Madison Cole was walked, putting runners on first and second. Luna loaded the bases with a single to left center field.

Savanna Disbrow then stepped up to the plate and had a massive two-RBI single up the middle (Cole and Bernt scored). Prasnjak then drove in two more runs (Luna and Disbrow) as she notched a double.

Hailey Whisman picked up her fifth win of the season in the circle, pitching the entire game and registering four strikeouts.

Bernt led the Panthers' offense with two hits and one run. Gilbert finished with two runs and two RBIs, while Luna added a hit and two runs scored in the win for Davenport.

Game Two

How it Happened
Luna opened the game with a single through the left side in the first at-bat of the game. However, it was the only hit Davenport recorded in the contest. The Cardinals 13-11, 2-2 GLVC) did most of their damage in the second, notching five runs and five hits.

Davenport used three different pitchers in the circle; Hannah Tahaney, Mariah Stines and Schwanke. Tahaney recorded the loss, pitching the first 1.1 innings, moving to 3-2 on the season.
