Panthers Pick Up Three More Wins in Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Over the past two days (March 2-3), the Davenport University softball team has garnered three more wins, posting a 3-1 record during that time. In those three victories, the Panthers (5-3, 0-0 GLIAC) outscored their opponents 22-7.

Game One vs Walsh
Result: W, 6-0
How it Happened 
After reaching on a fielder's choice, Kailyne Luna scored the opening run of the game in the first inning as she was brought in by Darby Kramp.

The Panthers' offense exploded in the second inning, scoring five runs to go ahead 6-0. Madison Cole recorded the first hit of the inning, reaching on a single. Moments later, Grace Gilbert brought home Cole with a single. On the ensuing at-bat, Peyton Smith reached home on a throwing error.

Luna then stepped up into the box and notched a two-RBI double, allowing Ally Prasnjak and Gilbert to score. Luna scored the final run of the inning off a double from Savanna Disbrow

In the circle, Hannah Tahaney pitched all seven innings, registering seven strikeouts and allowing no runs.

Disbrow finished the game with a pair of hits, a double and an RBI for DU. Luna added one hit, which was a double, as well as two runs and two RBIs.

Game Two vs. Wheeling
Result: L, 7-1
How it Happened 
Trailing 7-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Alaina Schwanke opened the final inning with a double. A sacrifice fly later in the inning from Mariah Stines allowed Schwanke to score the first run of the game for DU.

Schwanke pitched the opening 1.1 innings for Davenport, tallying two strikeouts. Stines pitched the final 5.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Luna and Schwanke led the DU offense, each finishing the game with two hits. Kramp, Smith and Brooke Bernt also added a hit in the loss for the Panthers.

Game Three vs. Holy Family
Result: W, 7-1
How it Happened 
Holding a 2-1 lead late in the contest, the Panthers put together a massive sixth inning, scoring five runs to take a 7-1 advantage. Smith started off the inning with a triple for the Panthers. Later on, Smith scored as Gilbert was credited with an RBI.

A double from Prasnkak brought home two runners, Gilbert and Amanda Pay, pushing the Davenport lead to 5-1. Disbrow doubled on the ensuing at-bat, which allowed Prasnjak to score. Disbrow scored the final run of the inning as Kramp singled to center field. 

Hailey Whisman pitched the entire game for the Panthers, finishing the game with six strikeouts.

Game Four vs. Davis & Elkins
Result: W, 9-6
How it Happened 
DU scored five runs in the third inning, going ahead 5-0 in the game. Gilbert, Luna, Disbrow, Hannah Mauer and Kylie Hegland all scored in the inning.

Prasnjak opened the fourth inning with a home run, which expanded the Panthers lead to 6-0. In the fifth, Davenport scored three more runs and took a 9-0 advantage. Gilbert scored the first run of the inning, followed by a two-RBI single from Mauer, which brought home Disbrow and Prasnjak.

Pitching all seven innings was Tahaney, recording two strikeouts while only allowing two earned runs. 

Smith finished with two hits and an RBI for the Panthers, while Mauer added a hit, two RBIs and a run scored. Disbrow and Prasnjak each finished with a hit and a run scored for DU.
