FINDLAY, Ohio - The women's lacrosse team gave up their fewest goals in a game since Mar. 12, 2023 in a 9-3 victory at Findlay on Thursday. The Panthers have now won three straight games and improved to 3-2 overall this season. The Oilers turned it over 29 times and did not score in the second or third quarters. UF is now 1-4 overall this season.
Findlay was saddled with seven straight penalties to start the game. They had three green cards and four yellow cards.
Gabby Basha was able to score two woman-up goals and assisted on another goal to lead the team with three points.
Maddy Haynes scored twice in the contest coming at 3:54 left in the first quarter to give DU a 4-1 lead and again at 7:28 of the second quarter for a 5-2 advantage.
The Oilers scored first but then the Panthers reeled off four straight goals and led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. Haynes and Basha scored in the second quarter for a 6-2 lead at halftime.
Lauryn Hansen and
Jenna Gillis scored the only goals of the third quarter and both were with a woman up advantage. The Oilers scored once in the fourth quarter at 10:05 and DU matched it at 1:44 as
Theadora Krueger concluded the scoring.
Zoe Cassell started in goal and played all 60 minutes with five saves. DU caused 13 of the 29 turnovers and Krueger led the team with four caused turnovers. The Panthers will now stay in Ohio and play on Saturday against Ashland (2-2) at noon.
