DU Splits with KWC on Saturday Afternoon

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Davenport University softball team split its doubleheader with Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field. In two games of action, the DU offense accumulated 15 hits, as opposed to five for KWC.

Game One
Result: L, 4-1
How it Happened
Despite falling in the opening game of the day, Davenport finished with three more hits than Wesleyan (6-3).

Trailing 3-0 entering the second inning, Kylie Hegland notched a single up the middle with two outs on the board. Moments later, Amanda Pay launched the ball to center field, allowing Hegland to score, trimming the deficit to two (3-1).

Hegland and Alaina Schwanke each notched singles in the top of the fourth, but DU was unable to bring them home.

In the circle, Hailey Whisman pitched the entire game for Davenport, only allowing two earned runs in the loss.

Offensively, Hegland and Pay led the way finishing with two hits apiece. Ally Prasnjak and Schwanke each added one hit in the loss for DU.

Game Two
Result: W, 11-1 (6 Inn.)
How it Happened
Davenport dominated the second game, as it ended with the mercy rule in the top of the sixth inning.

In the top of the first, Kailyne Luna scored the first run of the game off a double by Prasnjak to left-center field. Later in the inning, Schwanke brought Prasnjak home, putting Davenport ahead 2-0 to start the game.

Leading 5-1 heading into the top of the sixth, the DU offense exploded for six runs to gain a 10-run advantage. Savanna Disbrow opened the inning with a single to left field. With the bases loaded, KWC walked three consecutive batters, allowing Schwanke, Hegland and Madison Cole to all score. Julia Perry scored on the ensuing at-bat off a single by Prasnjak. Disbrow sealed the game with a double through the left side, bringing home Luna and Grace Gilbert.

Hannah Tahaney pitched all six innings for DU, finishing the game with three strikeouts.

Prasnjak, Disbrow, Schwanke and Perry all ended the game with two hits to pac3e the Davenport offense. Luna finished with a game-high three runs scored, while Peyton Smith added one hit and a run scored.

Up Next
The Panthers will return to Foster Field tomorrow at noon (1 p.m. EST) for another doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan.
