Panthers Pick Up Two Wins Against Pride

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Amid an extensive home stretch, the Davenport University softball team secured two wins over Purdue Northwest on Tuesday afternoon at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. DU has now played six straight games at home and has four more this upcoming weekend.

Following the wins, the Panthers (15-15, 6-4 GLIAC) are now tied for second place in the conference with Grand Valley State.

Game One
Result: W, 2-1
How it Happened
With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Grace Gilbert stepped into the box with one out on the board. The freshman came up clutch with a single to left field, advancing Hannah Maurer to third base. However, a bad throw to home allowed Maurer to sprint home, sliding to beat the Prides' (7-22-1, 2-8 GLIAC) catcher and securing the game-winning run on the play.

Maurer was pinch running for Darby Kramp, who was walked in the first at-bat of the inning.

Savanna Disbrow scored the other run of the game for the Panthers in the bottom of the fourth off a double by Alaina Schwanke.

Hailey Whisman pitched all seven innings in the circle for DU, recording two strikeouts and allowing no earned runs, moving to 8-6 on the season.

Offensively, Disbrow, Ally Prasnjak, Schwanke and Gilbert all finished the game with one hit.

Game Two
Result: W, 6-0
How it Happened
Davenport did most of its damage in the fifth inning, notching five runs and four hits.

A single to center field by Prasnjak brought home the first two runs of the innings, Kailyne Luna and Brooke Bernt. Two more runs (Disbrow and Prasnjak) reached home following a double to left center field by Peyton Smith. On the ensuing at-bat, Smith scored from second as Kramp singled to left field.

In the circle, Hannah Tahaney picked up her sixth win of the season, recording two strikeouts and allowing no runs.

Seven players notched a hit in the win for the Panthers; Bernt, Disbrow, Prasnjak, Schwanke, Smith, Kramp and Alex Rendon.

Up Next
The Panthers will remain home, hosting Parkside on Saturday (April 5) at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex at 1 p.m. in Caledonia, Mich.
