Panthers Swept by Lakers on Sunday

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport University softball team was swept by Grand Valley State on Sunday (April 13) at the GVSU Softball Field. 

Game One 
Result: L, 12-4 (5 Inn.)
How it Happened
The Panthers got out to a hot start, getting out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Brooke Bernt opened the game with a single to left center field. Moments later, Ally Prasnjak sent the ball over the fence for a two-run home run. 

However, the Lakers (19-21, 10-8 GLIAC) put together an eight-run inning in the fourth, giving them an 11-2 lead over the Panthers.

DU answered in the fifth with a pair of runs. Madison Cole started things off with a single to left field and was later brought home off a single from Alaina Schwanke. On that same play, Bernt also crossed home plate, trimming the deficit to seven (11-4).

Four Panthers saw time in the circle in the loss; Hailey Whisman, Julia Perry, Alaina Schwanke and Mariah Stines.

Offensively, Bernt led the way with two hits and two runs scored for Davenport. Prasnjak, Schwanke and Cole all added one hit in the loss for the Panthers.

Game Two
Result: L, 11-4
How it Happened 
GVSU got out to a quick start in game two, taking a 6-0 advantage at the end of the first inning. 

In the top of the third, the Panthers put their first run of the game on the board. Kailyne Luna doubled to right center field and was later brought home off a double by Prasnjak.

DU had its best offensive output in the fifth, putting three runs on the board. Amanda Pay scored the first run as Luna singled to center field. Bernt and Luna scored the ensuing two runs, which cut the GVSU lead to seven (11-4).

In the circle, Stines, Tahaney and Perry split time. Tahaney finished the game with a team-high two strikeouts in the loss.

Luna led the Panthers' offense with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Prasnjak, Schwanke, Alex Rendon and Grace Gilbert all added a hit for DU.

Up Next 
The Panthers will head to Big Rapids, Mich. on Wednesday (April 16) to take on Ferris State at 2 p.m. at the FSU Softball Field.
