Panthers Drop Pair of Games to Bulldogs on Wednesday

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University softball team fell on the road to Ferris State on Wednesday afternoon at the FSU Softball Field.

Game One
Result: L, 14-6 (5 Inn.)
How it Happened:
DU got out to a hot start, taking a 6-0 lead over the Bulldogs (23-13, 12-8 GLIAC).

A single by Alaina Schwanke in the top of the first brought home Brooke Bernt for the first run of the day for the Panthers (17-23, 8-12 GLIAC). On the ensuing at-bat, Ally Prasnjak pushed the DU lead to 2-0, as she scored off a single by Grace Gilbert.

In the second inning, the Panthers piled on four more runs to take the 6-0 advantage. With the bases loaded, Prasnjak was walked, which allowed Madison Cole to score the first run of the inning. On the next at-bat, Schwanke had a two-RBI single and three runs crossed home plate (Bernt, Kailyne Luna and Prasnjak).

Three pitchers entered the circle for DU; Hailey Whisman, Julia Perry and Hannah Tahaney.

Leading the Panthers' offense was Schwanke with two hits and three RBIs. Gilbert and Cole each added a hit in the loss for DU.

Game Two
Result: L, 1-0
How it Happened:
Despite the loss, the DU offense secured four more hits than FSU (seven to four).

The Panthers had their best chance to score in the sixth inning, as hits by Prasnjak and Schwanke helped load the bases. However, the Bulldogs' defense manufactured a double play to get out of the innings unscathed.

In the circle, Tahaney pitched all six innings for the Panthers.

Schwanke again finished with a team-high two hits for Davenport. Prasnjak, Peyton Smith, Cole, Darby Kramp and Alex Rendon all added a hit in the loss for the Panthers.
