DU Falls on Senior Day to Wayne State

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport University softball team dropped two games to Wayne State on Saturday afternoon at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers (17-27, 8-16 GLIAC) honored their two seniors, Savanna Disbrow and Brooke Bernt at the conclusion of the doubleheader.

Game One
Result: L, 5-1
How it Happened
After two outs to start the bottom of the fifth, Bernt singled up the middle. On the ensuing at-bat, Kailyne Luna launched the ball to right center field, which brought home Bernt for DU's only run of the game.

Trailing 5-1 in the seventh, the Davenport offense picked up its production. Madison Cole, Alex Rendon and Bernt all singled to load the bases with one out on the board. However, the Panthers were unable to bring any of those runs home. It was the second inning of the game in which the Panthers left three runners on base.

Despite the loss, Davenport finished with more hits (eight) than Wayne State (seven).

Three pitchers spent time in the circle for the Panthers; Hannah Tahaney, Julia Perry and Hailey Whisman

Offensively, Bernt finished with two hits and a run scored in three at-bats to lead the way for the Panthers, while Luna ended with two hits and an RBI. Alaina Schwanke, Cole, Rendon and Peyton Smith all added a hit in the loss for DU.

Game Two
Result: L, 11-3 (5 Inn.)
How it Happened
The Warriors got out to a hot start, recording six runs in the first inning and five in the third to take an 11-0 advantage.

DU responded in the fourth with three runs and three hits. In the first at-nat, Disbrow sent the ball over the center field fence, marking her third home run of the year.

Later in the inning, Amanda Pay hit the first pitch she saw to the right center field fence, which allowed Rendon to score on the play. The final run for DU came on the next at-bat as Bernt singled to left field, bringing home Pay.

Bernt again finished the game with two hits while adding an RBI for Davenport. Pay batted 1-for-1 with an RBI and run scored in the loss. Rendon and Disbrow each added a hit and run scored for the Panthers.

Up Next
The Panthers have two more doubleheaders to close out their regular season, hitting the road to take on Roosevelt and Parkside next weekend.
