WLAX tames the Timberwolves 22-2

Maddy Haynes scored her 100th career goal with 14:08 left in the 2nd quarter

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's lacrosse team finished their home season with a 22-2 win over Northwood on Wednesday. Maddy Haynes was able to reach a career milestone with 14:08 left in the 2nd quarter as she scored her 100th career goal. She would finish with two goals in the game and now has 32 goals this season. She also led the team with four caused turnovers.

Northwood scored first just 1:15 into the game as Gabby Wilson scored her 35th goal of the season unassisted. Then the Panthers went to work and scored eight straight goals over a span of just over 10 minutes. Brianna Rodriguez got things rolling at 12:54 and then Gabby Basha scored her two goals of the game at 8:43 and 7:58 for the 3-1 lead. Ele Darmofal would score the next two goals followed by Mika Kulynych, Darmofal, and Kulynych again with 2:31 left in the quarter.

Sam Peterson scored the last goal of the game for the Timberwolves on a player-up with 25 seconds left in the quarter as it was 8-2 after 15 minutes. The Panthers would score six times in the second quarter, three times in the third quarter, and five more times in the final quarter. The game reached 12-2 with 6:14 in the second quarter as the running clock began for the rest of the contest.

Davenport led 35-16 in total shots and 28-8 in shots on goal. Davenport also led NU 28-17 in ground balls and 15-13 in draw controls. Basha led the Panthers with five points including two goals and three assists. Darmofal led the team with four goals and also had three ground balls. Blakely Malpass scored three goals and added one assist. Theadora Krueger contributed two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Zoe Cassell grabbed four ground balls and took over goalkeeper duties in the second half with three saves. Rachel Livak played the first 30 minutes and made four saves. Cassidy Sanders set a new season high with eight draw controls.

The team will now play in their regular season finale on Friday at Saginaw Valley State beginning at 1 PM.
