MONTREAL, Que. -
Hakeem Harris (Markham, Ont.) made history as he was recently selected by the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in the draft. Harris was the 26th pick overall in the third round and became the first Panther to be selected in the CFL Draft.
"Hakeem has worked hard from the day he arrived here four years ago," said head coach
Sparky McEwen. "He is truly a special talent who has persevered to get to this point in his career. I think his best football is ahead of him. He's worked daily on the fundamentals and became a student of the game. He's also worked hard in the classroom to achieve his degree. We are all so happy for him and his great family!"
Harris played for the Panthers from 2020 until 2024. In his last season, he caught 14 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown.
"First and foremost, all glory to God," said Harris. "I'd also like to thank my family for their unwavering support throughout this journey. My time at Davenport played a major role in shaping the man and player I am today. Through the highs and lows, this program taught me the true meaning of perseverance. I've learned to fight through adversity, trust in God's plan, and never give up. I'm truly grateful for the people, the process, and the belief that with faith, discipline, and resilience, you can achieve your dreams."
