CHICAGO, Ill. — Ellie Toney set the tempo,
Anna Axtell delivered from deep, and
Maddie Geers sparked the decisive fourth-quarter run as Davenport (5-12, 3-6 GLIAC) surged past Roosevelt (4-12, 3-6 GLIAC) for a 73–57 conference road win at the Goodman Center.
The Panthers wasted no time asserting control. Axtell drilled a three at the 9:49 mark off a Toney assist, then added free throws to stretch the early lead. The Panthers forced five turnovers in the opening quarter and turned defense into offense, while Toney capped the frame with a late three to send DU into the second quarter ahead 21–7.
Davenport continued to dictate play in the second. Kayla Covington opened the quarter with consecutive layups, Nevaeh Williams added a fast-break finish, and Toney's jumper midway through the period kept the pressure on. Roosevelt found a brief spark late, but DU answered every run and went into halftime holding a 38–24 advantage.
Momentum shifted in the third as Roosevelt pushed back. Axtell opened the half with another three, but the Lakers steadily closed the gap. Despite a timely triple from Toney, the Lakers closed the quarter on a strong run, tying the game at 50 as the buzzer sounded.
DU responded with its best stretch of the night in the fourth. Geers scored on back-to-back layups early to reclaim control, both coming off assists from Toney. The Panthers tightened defensively, forcing seven turnovers in the final period, and Axtell knocked down two late threes to put the game away as Davenport closed on a 23–7 run.
