CALEDONIA, Mich. — The Panthers earned a 3-3 draw against St. Cloud State on Sunday, responding to each of the Huskies' goals before taking a second-half lead. The Panthers fell 2-0 to Roosevelt on Friday before bouncing back with an offensive effort that secured a point on the road. Davenport returns home for two GLIAC matchups, hosting Purdue Northwest on Friday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. before facing Parkside on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. for Senior Day.
The Panthers faced a difficult test against Roosevelt, as goalkeeper Carter McGowan recorded a season-high 11 saves to keep Davenport within reach. Roosevelt scored in each half, while the Panthers continued to search for an equalizer and generated six corner kicks. Drew Matyunas and Kevin Hubbell each recorded two shots, but Davenport was unable to find the back of the net in the 2-0 setback.
Davenport showed a different attacking rhythm Sunday against St. Cloud State, answering both first-half goals to enter halftime tied at 2-2. Alexis Rivera-Velasquez scored his first collegiate goal in the 10th minute off an assist from Archie Oliver, before Jordy Rodriguez found the net for his first goal of the season just a minute after the Huskies regained the lead. The Panthers took their first advantage in the 57th minute when Matyunas finished a pass from Charlie Davis, who recorded his second assist of the afternoon. St. Cloud State equalized in the 71st minute, but Davenport held firm defensively through the closing minutes to secure the 3-3 draw.
Davenport will look to carry Sunday's offensive momentum into its two-game homestand, beginning with Purdue Northwest on Friday. Davis recorded two assists against St. Cloud State, while Rivera-Velasquez, Rodriguez and Matyunas each found the back of the net. McGowan finished the weekend with 16 saves across the two matches, including his season-high performance against Roosevelt. The Panthers will then celebrate Senior Day on Sunday against Parkside, closing the weekend with an opportunity to build momentum at home.
