HUDSONVILLE, Mich. - Despite being outshot 41-19 on Friday afternoon, the women's hockey team dug deep for a 2-0 victory over Grand Valley State to conclude the regular season. The Lakers had not lost to Davenport since 2/7/2016.
Goaltending and penalty kill units were the difference in the monumental win for the Panthers. DU scored both goals in the first period as
Sydriha Retzlaff scored her 12th of the season at 3:20 and
Kacie Stolarek scored her 37th of the season at 19:42.
Kaylen Clark assisted on the second goal.
Grand Valley State had 29 shots compared to 9 for the Panthers over the final two periods, but
Avery Hall turned in a masterpiece stopping all 41 shots she faced. The Lakers were also 0-for-7 on the power play.
The Panthers (11-15-1) carry a three-game win streak into the CCWHA playoffs. They will face No. 10 Miami University on Thursday, Feb. 19. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 AM at the Dearborn Ice Skating Center and will play on the Adray Arena rink.
