PREVIEW: Panthers Look to Remain Perfect Heading to Northwood

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After opening the season with a 21-10 victory over Tiffin last Saturday (Feb. 14), the Davenport University women's lacrosse team is set for another out-of-conference battle this weekend, heading to Midland, Mich. to take on Northwood. 

In the win over the Dragon, freshman Kacie Stolarek was nothing short of impressive. The Millbrook, Calif. native earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week in her collegiate debut. She finished with six caused turnovers and 19 draw controls, both of which rank inside the top-10 for a single game in school history.

Offensively, Alyssa Bird led the squad with six points (four goals and two assists), while Brianna Rodriguez had four goals in the win. In total, nine different Panthers found the back of the net.

About the Timberwolves
  • Last season, NU went 6-9 overall and 3-5 in G-MAC action. The Timberwolves finished with three All-Conference performers.
  • Gabby Wilson is the top returner from last year, coming off a season in which she earned first-team All-Conference honors. She currently leads the team in draw controls (14) and caused turnovers (two), while she is tied for first in goals (two).
  • So far, the Timberwolves have yet to pick up a win this season, falling to two GLIAC teams already, Concordia-St. Paul (21-2) and Northern Michigan (20-4). 
  • Picked 8th in G-MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
