Preview: Panthers Set for GLIAC, Home Openers this Weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After six straight nonconference road games to start the season, the Davenport University women's lacrosse team has its first GLIAC and home games this coming weekend. The Panthers will head to Saginaw Valley State on Friday (March 13) at 1 p.m. and then have their home opener on Sunday (March 15) against Lewis at noon.

This past week, sophomore Addison Roe was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Roe is having a breakout season; she netted a career-best six goals on eight shot attempts to lead DU to a 22-2 win over Tiffin on Tuesday (March 3). She then followed that up with a five-goal and one assist performance against Thomas More, as the Panthers secured a dominating 21-7 victory. Roe concluded the week with three goals and an assist against Walsh on Sunday (March 8).

About the Cardinals
  • In its inaugural season in 2025, the Cards went 0-13 overall and 0-8 in conference play. SVSU returned four of its five top scorers from the inaugural season, including the team leader, Gabby Parker, who finished the year with 22 points (21 goals). Lainey Lasky finished third in scoring with nine points (3 goals) and was the leader in assists with six. Annelle Dykema (8 points, 7 goals) and Aleena Edwards (3 points, 2 goals) rounded out the top-five scoring threats for the Cardinals that are returning from last year's squad. 
  • Had the first win in program history against Northwood on Feb. 24, coming away with a 13-8 victory. 
  • Picked fifth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

About the Flyers
  • Last season, Walsh finished its season 6-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
  • The Flyers return their top offensive threat from a season ago, Jade McKinnon. As a freshman, she led the squad in points (56) and earned Honorable Mention All-GLVC. Now, as a sophomore, she leads the squad in goals (21) and points (26) through five games.
  • Coming off back-to-back wins, taking down Northwood 17-7 and Walsh 16-12 in their last two outings.
  • Picked to finish fifth in the G-MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
